PHUKET, Thailand – August 6, 2026 — Chalong Police have arrested four suspects—two Canadian nationals and two Thai nationals—under warrants issued by the Phuket Provincial Court for their alleged involvement in an illegal nominee business scheme linked to the operation of an international school.
The operation was carried out under the direction of Pol. Col. Surasak Jaidee, Superintendent of Chalong Police Station, and Pol. Lt. Col. Peerasit Noophayan, Deputy Superintendent of Investigation, with the arrest team led by Pol. Lt. Col. Chayakorn Tangsakul, Inspector of Investigation, together with investigation officers.
The four suspects are :
Mr. Daniel (surname withheld), 46, Canadian national
Ms. Melissa (surname withheld), 44, Canadian national
Mrs. Khwanchon (surname withheld), 57, Thai national
Ms. Praewa (surname withheld), 37, Thai national
The arrests were made in line with the policies of the Royal Thai Government, the Royal Thai Police, and Provincial Police Region 8 to crack down on illegal business operations involving foreign investors and the use of Thai nationals as nominee shareholders.
According to investigators, the two foreign suspects allegedly collaborated with Thai nationals who acted as nominee shareholders in corporate entities to circumvent the Foreign Business Act and operate a private international school in violation of legal requirements governing Thai shareholding and ownership.
The two Canadian suspects were charged with allowing Thai nationals or non-foreign legal entities to assist, support, or act as nominee shareholders to facilitate foreign business operations in violation of Thai law, as well as jointly establishing and operating a private school in breach of legal requirements governing Thai ownership and shareholding. They were arrested outside a residence in Village No. 6, Chalong Subdistrict, Mueang Phuket District.
The two Thai suspects were charged with assisting foreign nationals by acting as nominee shareholders or facilitating foreign business operations in violation of Thai law, and jointly establishing and operating a private school in breach of the legal requirements concerning Thai ownership and shareholding. They were arrested near a residence on Chao Fa East Road in Village No. 8, Chalong Subdistrict.
Further investigation found that Mrs. Khwanchon, the third suspect, was listed as a shareholder in an accounting firm located in Chalong Subdistrict. Authorities believe the firm was used to facilitate accounting services and financial transactions for three additional related companies.
All four suspects have been taken into custody and transferred to investigators at Chalong Police Station for legal proceedings.
Chalong Police stated that they will continue to investigate and strictly suppress nominee business schemes and other illegal business activities involving foreign investors. Authorities said any additional violations uncovered during the investigation will be prosecuted in accordance with Thai law.
